The Project
History is not always written in books; often, it lives in the memories of our elders, the songs of our villages, and the crumbling foundations of forgotten structures. For the Bhandari community in Goa, much of our history remains oral, scattered, and unrecorded. As the generation that witnessed the transition from colonial rule to liberation passes on, we face the critical risk of losing these stories forever.
The Bhandari History Project was born out of this urgency. We are an independent, community-driven initiative dedicated to excavating, archiving, and institutionalizing the legacy of the Bhandari Samaj before it fades into obscurity. Do visit our Instagram page for regular updates.
We are not just a historical archive; we are a movement for recognition. Our work is anchored in recording the lived experiences of our community. From the struggles of the pre-liberation era to the social revolutions in the 20th century, we are digitizing these narratives to create a permanent, accessible repository for future generations.
We are a collective of historians, researchers, descendants, and volunteers. We invite you to join us in this journey of reclamation.
